Local Project
We strive to serve the Kalamazoo (and surrounding) community while
utilizing skills we have developed through our
projects in our engineering classes.

Our local project recently finished an engaging workshop at the Grand Rapids refugee center teaching children about the fundamentals of math and science, building capsules that would protect eggs from a 2 story drop.
The team is still exploring projects for the students that can expose them to different types of electrical and mechanical engineering.
We are currently working with Gibbs House to update the Static Aeration Pipes in the composting plots. These pipes provide airflow to the compost without the need for physical manipulation—however, dirt, wood chips, compost, and other debris consistently get into these pipes. Blocking the essential airflow these pipes are proving to the compost.

Our team plans to design and build a prototype of the Static Aeration Pipes to test different filters and various diameters to prevent debris from entering the pipes. They will be using the PDSA problem-solving method.
